The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin - Episode Guide- "Tweeg's Mom"
By Teddy Ruxpin Online Webmaster Josh Isaacson

Overall Rating- 5/6

Tweeg and LB are on a journey to visit Tweeg's mom, Eleanor.
LB asks what his mom is like, Tweeg says she's a rotten little troll, which is why he loves her so much.

Tweeg gets the "Diamonds" that he and LB stole from Gimmick's out of the wagon to give to his mother, obviously hoping for her approval. He decides it wouldn't hurt to keep just one for himself though. Tweeg makes LB wait at the wagon while he goes to talk to his mother, LB asks if it's because Tweeg would be embarrased when Elanor makes fun of him in front of LB. Tweeg says he would never be embarrased in front of a "lowly bounder."

QUOTE-
TWEEG- "Keep a good eye on the wagon for me while I'm gone, LB, there's a lot of villains around here"

LB- "Yeah, too bad you aint one of em!"

Tweeg rings the doorbell just as Elanor is spraying on "a hint of garlic". Eleanor seems surprised that she's got a visitor, and thinks it must be a door to door salesman. When she finds out it's actually Tweeg, she shrieks and slams the door, telling her pet Sparky that it's much worse than a salesman, it's her son.

QUOTE-
ELEANOR- "Oh well, being his mother's a dirty job... but somebody's got to do it."

Eleanor invites Tweeg in and asks him if he's managed to do anything really bad lately. He pulls out the "diamonds" and tells her he has stolen them just for her. While she's not quite ready to say she's proud of him, Elanor does seem a lot happier to see him after this revelation.

Elanor examines the "Diamonds" and tells Tweeg they aren't Diamonds at all, but something much more valuable. Tweeg begs her to take him to MAVO, where he hopes to gain membership by giving these valuables to Quellor. They load up the wagon and head on their way.

Back at Gimmick's, the trio are very upset over the missing crystals. They decide to head up to Tweeg's and ask him if he stole them. Nobody is home and Tweeg's door is wide open, so the trio ventures in. They don't find Tweeg, but they do find a MAVO membership drive letter Tweeg recieved in an earlier episode. That gives them the idea to head to MAVO and get the directions to MAVO headquarters from the flyer. While Gimmick and Grubby aren't too happy about the idea of heading anyplace where  "Monsters and Villains" reside, Teddy manages to talk them into it.

Eleanor is making LB and Tweeg pull the cart, and berates them for not going faster. She advises Tweeg that when they get to MAVO, he should be on his worst behavior. When they arrive, Elanor gets into an argument with Ickley Bognostraclum, the MAVO gatekeeper. He initially refuses her entrance to see Quellor, citing paragraphs in the MAVO rulebook which state "Nobody Sees Quellor". When she shows him the Crystals he relents, taking them to see if Quellor will let her gain access. While in the process, Ickley decides to keep a crystal for himself as well.

QUOTE-

BOGNOSTRACLUM- "Never pass up an opportunity to steal something. PARAGRAPH 48, SUBSECTION 27!"

When Quellor sees the Crystals, he is very excited. He tells Ickley to summon the MAVO council for an emergency meeting, and grants immediate membership to Tweeg. At the meeting, MAVO calls on the Understander Of Legends to interperet the writings on the MAVO walls. She says that it's a simple warning- that until MAVO is in possession of the crystals, they will never be free from the "threat of goodness." She adds later that MAVO must always keep the crystals out of the hands of Illiops. LB tells Tweeg, who tells Ickley that Teddy is an illiop.

QUOTE-
QUELLOR- "What is the meaning of these interuptions, Bognostraclum?!"
BOGNOSTRACLUM- "Well, uh, I have just been told that the crystal was in the hands of Teddy Ruxpin, a Lollipop!"

LB- "Illiop... It's Illiop!"

A Very angry Quellor says that if more crystals are in the Illiop's hands, MAVO's very existence is threatened. He will not rest until MAVO is in possession of the rest of the crystals, and anyone who stands in the way of that will suffer. Quellor tells Tweeg that if he wishes to live to see the day he's a MAVO member, he'll bring him the remaining crystals. Ickley gives Tweeg back the crystal he stole, saying he must have "misplaced it" earlier. Elanor gives Tweeg back the crystal she stole as well, saying it must have gotten stuck behind the "Cheap upholsterey in that Wagon of yours!" Tweeg pulls out the crystal he hid earlier, and LB admits to also "saving (a crystal) for a surprise", meaning Tweeg only needs to find the one remaining missing crystal before he returns to MAVO.

EPISODE REVIEW-

This is one of a few in the series I would call a 'transition' episode. The writing takes a very dramatic turn, and it's a much darker episode compared to the stories we had seen so far. It fleshes out MAVO and those characters very well in 22 minutes.

This is also a very good episode visually... some of the difficulties the animation team were having were getting ironed out by this time and, in particular, Quellor's lair and the MAVO characters were really brought to life visually here.
