The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin - Episode Guide- "The Journey Home"
By Teddy Ruxpin Online Webmaster Josh Isaacson

Overall Rating- 6/6

It's windy out, and Gimmick thinks it will be perfect for the voyage. Grubby agrees...Teddy and Burl are anxious to be back in Rillonia.

Tweeg, LB, Buffy and Elroy are enjoying the beach. Tweeg is not so thrilled about his dad's pleas to come surfing, and he narrowly escapes being engulfed in a title wave.

The wind isn't quite a breeze anymore, and up in the Airship things are getting dicey as the wind blows the trio and Burl around. In a bit of deja 'vu from "Captured" (episode 33), Teddy is sent dangling over the ledge of the Airship and nearly falls into the sea, before being rescued by Burl. Soon, a Tornado appears and the Airship heads directly into the eye of it. Grubby takes the moment to enjoy some root stew and amuses himself and attempts to lighten things up by pointing out some "flying fish".

The Grunges join Tweeg, LB and crew on the beach while Elroy shows off his surfing skills.

QUOTE
LB-
"Your daddy-o is real good. howcome you can't do anything right?"
TWEEG
"I take after my mommy".

The Airship finally finds calm airspace and lands in a small meadow. Grubby points out, for the second time in the episode, that Gimmick has no idea where they are. Burl however recognizes the meadow as a place he used to pick flowers for Teddy's mother. Rillonia Rosadalias are the flower of her choice.

Meanwhile, Tweeg is finally getting the hang of surfing, and LB even congratulates him on finally doing something right, and even manages to call him "Tweeg".

After Burl points out some landmarks from the Air, Teddy and Burl realize they are in their village and are finally home. Teddy opens the door to find the house empty. Digger, an old friend of Teddy, excitedly greets the group and tells Teddy that his mom is in the town square for a dedication of a statue of Teddy's long lost father. Teddy then introduces his father to Digger, who says they had better hurry down there. Burl decides to wait a bit and tells Teddy to go along, then asks Gimmick for a little help.

As they are walking towards town, Grubby, Teddy and Digger are nearly run off the road by a carraige. They find it to be Teddy's mother, who rushes her son and Grubby when she finds they are home and safe. Grubby even gets a peck on the cheek from Ms. Ruxpin, and blushes accordingly. Teddy introduces Gimmick to his mom. Gimmick and Teddy keep quiet momentarily about the discovery of Burl. The Mayor in the town square announces it's Burl Ruxpin day, and Illana is then called on stage to unveil the statue of the brave, but "lost" explorer, Burl. Burl has taken the place of the statue and reveals himself to Illana by sneezing at her favoirte flowers. Illana is overcome with emotion, and Burl's journey is finally over.

Gimmick reveals how he hid the real statue of Burl- by reducing it with the reducing machine. He then sends it back up to actual size, and proclaims it's the best vacation he's ever had. He and Grubby, thinking their time with Teddy is over, head to the Airship but before taking off are called back inside by Teddy, who invites them to join in on all the catching up they all have to do.

EPISODE REVIEW

A very sweet episode, and also a very bittersweet episode for me. It's the last time we see Grundo in the series (and so far, the last time we have seen Grundo in any new material) and it essentially is the conclusion of the epic part of the series, even though we still have a couple of episodes to go. That, paired with seeing Teddy reunite with his father and Tweeg (for the first time) appear to find some happiness (yes, we can root for Tweeg when he's being good) almost brings a tear to this old fan's eyes. It was a very well-written episode with a couple of very good songs and it's very fitting that there were a few of different shots of characters- and the Airship- riding off into the sunset. The episode is also very different from ones earlier in the series. The characters relationships have changed, especially Tweeg and LB (although that formula, thankfully, gets back to normal by the end of the series)

So in closing, I'm glad Teddy made it home... I just hope he doesn't stay there much longer. ;-)
