The trio flies over Wooly's house and he invites
them down for dinner. Grubby, of course, thinks this is a wonderful
idea.
During dinner, a storm begins to brew. The storm is
strong enough that it blows open Wooly's doors and windows. The trio
goes outside to make sure the airship is secure when they hear Leota's
cries for help. Leota says the school is blowing down, and they
frantically rush to the scene. Wooly grabs the tree and secures it,
meanwhile the trio props it up with logs.
The trio stays at Wooly's house for the night and
then helps Leota clean up the school tree the next morning. Grubby
remarks that the desks at the school must've got zapped by Gimmick's
reducing machine. Leota says they're the right size, all of the
students are Elves and Woodsprites. Gimmick claims there's no such
thing as Elves, Leota remarks that that's what he said about
Woodsprites before he met her.
Wooly begins talking to Leota and she finds out he
doesnt have extensive education. She invites Wooly to be a regular
member of the class. Wooly gets confused easily during the first day of
class, and makes the other students laugh when he doesnt understand
certain words, like Ancestors. "If Aunts have sisters, do they have
brothers too?"
Wooly ends the first day extremely discouraged.
Meanwhile, at Tweeg's tower, Tweeg is contemplating
his next evil deed on the MAVO checklist, "Steal Something".
There is a knock at the door Tweeg is dismayed at
the visitor.
QUOTE-
LB-
"Who Is It, Your Mother?"
TWEEG-
"Someone just as bad, the MAVO dues collector!"
Tweeg sneaks out the window and LB invites the dues
collector in. She gives LB Tweeg's bill, and informs him the penalty
for late payment is 300 pieces of copper.
Tweeg decides to steal the wheel covers off of a
wagon parked outside, not knowing it's the dues collector's wagon. When
she comes down the steps he figures it out, and tries to return them
before she notices.
The trio are at home when Wooly stops by.
Teddy remarks he thought it was a schoolday, and Wooly says it is, but
he doesn't go there anymore. He tells the trio of his learning
problems, including his hatred of big words like "Geometry". The trio
sing Wooly a very encouraging song called "Hooray for History"
After the song, Wooly gets the confidence to return
to class. He tells Leota that he now knows what words like History and
Geometry mean.
Leota asks Wooly to read, and he struggles. They
figure out he can read the books, but the words are just too small in
Woodsprite & Elf size. Teddy gets an idea, and Gimmick blows up
the books with his reducing machine, allowing Wooly to see and read the
words.
EPISODE REVIEW
One of my favorite things
about The World of Teddy Ruxpin is that the stories could seamlessly
switch from being filled with adrenaline and heart racing
action, to much more character-driven themes. This
is one of those episodes on the rather anti-climactic side of the
series and gets it just right.
Wooly has given so much to the other characters during these initial
episodes, and it's nice to see that, as great friends that they are,
they are returning the favor by helping him to ease the self-doubt and
frustration he has as a result of not feeling educated. When
he stumbles and again loses his self confidence and determination, the
friends pick him back up and help him find his way again. I wish we
were all so lucky to have friends like the trio... and Wooly.
And once again Tweeg's scenes steal the show.... wouldn't it be great
to see a bad guy have such rotten luck in real life?
