The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin - Episode Guide- "King Nogburt's Castle"
By Teddy Ruxpin Online Webmaster Josh Isaacson

Overall Rating- 6/6

Teddy wakes before Grubby and Gimmick and sees an old man sleeping on their front lawn. He alerts the other two and Gimmick goes to try to wake the stranger up. Grubby takes charge and shakes the old man, who wakes up and begins freaking out, yelling about "bringing in the calvalry" and seems to be having a flashback to war battle. He calms down after a minute and asks the trio if whoever was attacking him is gone. They tell him he was dreaming and that he's among friends. He tells them he's Old Beanly and is there to deliver a message from King Nogburt, although he really cant remember who he's bringing the message to, nor what the message was. Teddy says maybe a good breakfast will refresh his memory, Grubby wholeheartedly agrees.

LB is looking down at Gimmick's valley from Tweeg's telescope and recognizes Beanly as King Nogburt's messenger... he goes to wake Tweeg to tell him the news. Tweeg is having a rather extravagant dream about swimming in riches, and gets angry when LB wakes him.  Tweeg gets excited at the news of Beanly and trips over a "Return to Tweeg" cannonball, falling off of the tower into a bucket of water in the process.

Beanly finally remembers the message at breakfast. The King is thanking the trio for rescuing Arin from the Mudblups and Aruzia from the Gutangs and is throwing a feast in their honor.

The trio loads up the Airship in preparation for their journey. Gimmick has created a portable version of the duplicating machine and is taking that along (It looks a lot like the reducing machine) The trio asks the forgetful Old Beanly if he would like to join on the Airship, but he declines, saying he's got an important mission. Moments after the trio takes off, Beanly can't remember where he's going again.

At Tweeg's tower, Tweeg concludes that the trio must be heading to King Nogburt's to request his help in stealing Tweeg's buttermilk-into-gold recipe.

QUOTE-
LB-  "Why would a king do that? He's got real gold"

TWEEG- "You can never have too much gold LB"

Old Beanly stumbles upon Wooly's house while Wooly is sweeping the floor. After getting a face full of dust from Wooly's broom, the two make aquaintance. Wooly asks Beanly if he's looking for someone, Beanly says he is and has traveled from King Nogburt's. He thinks he may be looking for the "Fuzzy Whatchamcallit" but can't remember much else. Beanly apologizes for disturbing Wooly and goes on his way.

When the trio lands at King Nogburt's they are warmly welcomed. Grubby decides to take a bow and climbs to the edge of the Airship, where he falls into the Kingdom's moat below. Luckily he's OK, and most of the crowd thinks it was a dive, they cheer on Grubby's "diving" skills.

Aruzia and Arin introduce the trio to the crowd, including a doctor named Eunice. Gimmick and Eunice know each other from the past and immediately rekindle what appears to be a long lost romance.

The Court Jester comes through and tells a joke.
"How many Mudblups does it take to light a lantern after dark?
None- Mudblups hate the dark"

Tweeg and LB have followed the trio to King Nogburts and are dressed as French Painters. "Misseur LeTweeg" and "Misseur Labee" .

QUOTE
LB
"Wouldn't you rather be called Mister LaTweeg?"

The self-appointed painters hope their in to the castle will be painting a portrait of one of the royal family. The guard stationed at the door says that the royal family has all recently had their portraits painted but "some of the walls could use a couple coats" Tweeg agrees to do the job.

QUOTE

LB- "You mean we're really gonna paint rooms?"
TWEEG- "YES! Starting with the Vault"

EPISODE REVIEW
This episode opens a lot of possibilities for future episodes, a few of which really never deliver (like the Gimmick/Eunice romance which IMO should have been explored a bit more) this episode and the few that follow it in the block offer both serious conflict (as we will see in later episodes on the block, with the Gutangs) and character driven storylines. While he's written in the series just a bit over the top, the addition of Old Beanly also adds some funny moments and spice to the episode. We learn alot about Beanly without getitng much of a spoken biography... another testament to the greatness of The World of Teddy Ruxpin... most characters in the Children's entertainment genre, especially supporting characters, aren't fleshed out nearly as much as our supporting cast in the Teddy Ruxpin storyline.

As I often do, I thoroughly enjoyed Tweeg's antics here... and LB as his critic is also at his best. Right when the formula begins to feel complacent, Tweeg and LB are given something new to do which opens up a whole new can of odd jobs for LB to do and insults for Tweeg to hear.

It's great to see the trio getting recognition for all they did to save Prince Arin and Princess Aruzia, especially considering they did not even know of the siblings before they stumbled upon the situation.... to risk not only their own safety but also the possible riches the treasure may have brought them in order to help a fellow man in need is very noble indeed.

As a side note, you can hear a distinct hint of Tweeg in the King's  voice in this episode if you listen closely enough... no doubt John Koensgen took on the role of King Nogburt.
